Homemade Vegan Pizza Recipe

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

For the Sauce:

  • 1 cup tomato sauce or marinara
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups vegan mozzarella cheese (store-bought or homemade)
  • Fresh spinach or basil leaves
  • Diced tomatoes or any other veggies you like

Instructions:

  1. Make the dough:
    • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
    • Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  2. Preheat the oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
  3. Prepare the sauce:
    • Mix tomato sauce with oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Shape the dough:
    • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a circle on a floured surface.
  5. Assemble the pizza:
    • Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet dusted with flour or cornmeal.
    • Spread the sauce evenly over the dough.
    • Sprinkle vegan mozzarella cheese generously.
    • Add fresh spinach/basil and diced tomatoes.
  6. Bake:
    • Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese has melted and browned slightly.
  7. Serve:
    • Let cool for a couple of minutes, slice, and enjoy!
