Homemade Vegan Pizza Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F / 45°C)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
For the Sauce:
- 1 cup tomato sauce or marinara
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Toppings:
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups vegan mozzarella cheese (store-bought or homemade)
- Fresh spinach or basil leaves
- Diced tomatoes or any other veggies you like
Instructions:
- Make the dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Knead the dough for 8-10 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven:
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat.
- Prepare the sauce:
- Mix tomato sauce with oregano, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Shape the dough:
- Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a circle on a floured surface.
- Assemble the pizza:
- Transfer the rolled dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet dusted with flour or cornmeal.
- Spread the sauce evenly over the dough.
- Sprinkle vegan mozzarella cheese generously.
- Add fresh spinach/basil and diced tomatoes.
- Bake:
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese has melted and browned slightly.
- Serve:
- Let cool for a couple of minutes, slice, and enjoy!
